“Ideas govern the world, or throw it into chaos” Auguste Comte
“That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density in any point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement or exclusive appropriation.” Thomas Jefferson, US President
The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else… I am sure that the power of vested interests is vastly exaggerated compared with the gradual encroachment of ideas… soon or late, it is ideas, not vested interests, which are dangerous for good or evil.
John Maynard Keynes, The General Theory
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. Eleanor Roosevelt
There are some ideas so wrong that only a very intelligent person could believe in them. George Orwell
“The early part of my career was focused on the elusive notion of an idea and its economic power… What makes ideas so remarkable is their capacity for shared use.”
“The economic problem, is really about configuring all our institutions so that we search efficiently through this space of possible ideas, finding better and better ones.” Paul Romer, Nobel Laureate in Economics
Our initiative is dedicated to the world of ideas, their generation, synthesis, dissemination and influence upon public developments and the corresponding economy. We’ll rely on the best and the brightest in all related fields in order to facilitate a wider creative synthesis for the generation of the most fitting and promising ideas for broader social benefits. Among our goals is to provide a rich and inspiring ecosystem committed to the support of established and disruptive ideas. Ultimately, our facilities will constitute a global innovation hub with consistent focus on the philosophy, sciences, and technologies that underpin idea-related spaces, their creative interactions and ensuing economic ramifications.
Ever since Plato articulated his momentous Theory of Ideas, generations upon generations of great thinkers have been working on how to apply his philosophical groundwork towards stimulating thinking and better organizing thoughts. Their ensuing efforts focused on influencing and enhancing personal, social, and civic performance and well-being with indirect only economic results. It was not until circa 1974, when an immensely interesting phenomenon emerged, whereby intangible products of ideas featured as the key items of economic development. Indeed, ever since 1974, we observe the impressive growth of an ideas-based economy, the economy of intangible products, and the corresponding descent of the economy of tangibles. This important development, alternatively viewed as the knowledge economy, is clearly depicted by the relevant S&P 500 data sets. While, during 1975, one sixth of the S&P 500 companies corresponded to those of intangible products, by 2015, the companies committed to intangible products represent the five sixths of the economy. The greatest part of the progressing economy of intangibles is connected to software production or its relevant electronics. The characteristic feature of this knowledge economy is the emphasis upon intellectual property and its legally restricted use in order to collect matching “rents.”
